Free Scott LaFaro Day Jazz Showcase feat. i3° – April 1, 2016 – 8:oopm

When the usual Geneva Night Out festivities are over, make your way to the Smith Opera House at 82 Seneca Street for a free concert: Our second annual Scott LaFaro Day Celebration Jazz Showcase on April 1st, 2016 at 8:00pm. Admission is free.

April 3rd is “Scott LaFaro Day” in Geneva to honor the legendary and influential jazz bassist here in his hometown. This year, i3° will be performing two sets live on the historic Smith stage. Our most honored ‘guest’ this year will be Scott LaFaro’s restored Prescott double bass, on which he performed and recorded some of the greatest jazz music of all time.

i3º (pronounced “thirteen degrees“) is a jazz trio of music professors from Ithaca College featuring Nicholas Walker, double bass; Greg Evans, drums; Nick Weiser piano. Thirteen degrees plays music in schools, retirement communities, concert halls, outdoor festivals, prisons, hospitals, parks, homes, bars, and community centers. The faculty members of the trio believe that music elevates the human condition, that access to music is a basic human need.

The awarding of the annual Scott LaFaro Memorial Scholarship to a Geneva High School student exhibiting dedication and talent in music will take place during the evening. A rare filmed performance by Scott LaFaro will also be screened as part of the event.

Please join us in our annual salute to Scotty’s music and legacy!

Geneva Night Out is brought to you by Love Geneva, Stomping Grounds Art::Books::Gifts and U.G. Collective.
